The network's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Secures a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often marked by cynicism, this show's sincerity struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about observing this charming family navigate their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to evolve comedy past its long-running cynical streak. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to bask in the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
