That Gory Animated Film Ending That Haunts Fans

Among every mature cartoon movies I’ve personally viewed, no other has stuck with me quite like the terror-laced finale of the explicitly bloody as well as overwhelingly transgressive film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.

In the year 2015, this Spain-based writer-director crafted a dark, somber , often savage universe with several minor , forlorn twinges of hope.

While Unicorn Wars appears as it came from an impulse to push animation further, the director explained that it was more an attempt to communicate a global, multicultural message concerning “the common origin of all wars.”

This theme is communicated via a squad of colorful pastel bears , obviously inspired by a popular series of lovable characters.

Maturing in a culture centered on aggression and the war machine, a lot of the bears are obsessed with slaughtering the mythical beasts, due to a holy book that claims the bears they were once kings of the forest, before the horned beings forced them out.

Others haven’t fully fallen for the indoctrination, and would rather experiment with narcotics or engage sexually outdoors.

In contrast to their friendly equivalents, these vivid animals show sexual organs , obvious urges.

For a particular particularly cruel, pessimistic creature, the bear named Bluey, the conflict against the unicorns becomes a road to power — and specifically to authority above his gentler, kinder brother the bear Tubby.

This bear acts as a tormentor , an obvious psychopath , and when fear dominates his unit and kills his comrades sequentially, he seizes progressively control for himself, in increasingly violent, destructive ways.

Meanwhile, the horned creatures are suffering their own terror, through a spreading, destructive monster in their forest.

“In the early stages, it feels like a humorous movie,” the director said. “However it evolves into a more dramatic and sorrowful movie. And ultimately, it transforms into a terrifying movie.”

The Unicorn Wars starts out similar to one of the more whimsical features by a renowned filmmaker, which find a mischievous joy in permitting cartoon characters swear, engage in violence, or engage sexually.

Then it turns into closer to a darker movie by that same creator, featuring progressively explicit brutality and a noticeable link to genuine tragedy of conflict.

By the end, it is a full-on theatrical horror carnage.

The fear that makes this an ideal spooky-season watch begins a lot earlier than one might expect.

Unicorn Wars is ideal for the devoted gorehounds, for lovers of extreme cinema who want to see a movie they’ve never seen on-screen before, and who can handle a story that pulls unflinching brutality.

Watch it in a dark room free from interruptions, and the finale will crawl deep within you and linger.
