Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity in the area of the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is not yet known and the American officials has remained silent.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - stated they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck locations associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted debris fell on a residential area in the capital, causing some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
